Malaysia’s OD Racing Team WRT recently debuted with their freshly liveried Audi R8 LMS GT3 for the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia season. Over 500 team guests and fans attended the official launch at the Wrapxpert gallery in Shah Alam, which had its official opening at the same time. The Malaysia Book of Records also named OD Racing as “the first full-fledged homegrown GT racing team in Malaysia”, with Tan Sri Danny Ooi and Gillian Ooi of D’Touch International presenting the award on behalf of MBR to OD Racing Group of Companies Dato Sri Ee. The team had announced its entry into the Blancpain GT Series Asia and new partnership with Europe’s legendary WRT race team under the OD Racing Team WRT banner, and they will be fighting for the championship again in the 2018 season.
Ron Reichert will be OD Racing Team WRT’s team manager. Following their first full season of racing in Asia last year, the well-proven Belgian Audi factory team will continue their partnership with OD Racing to further their Asian racing efforts. OD Racing Team WRT Director Cornelius Ee said, “We got into this partnership with the same aim and similar values. Like us, WRT may not have been around for very long but their impressive successes and solid experience with Audi in the European races is sure to be an advantage for us moving forward. Together, our drivers and their crew are ready to take on the Blancpain GT Series Asia and we are truly excited to see the growth of this partnership and win this championship.”
Team drivers Mitch Gilbert and Aditya Patel were also present at the launch event, with both drivers gunning hard for the championship after missing the 2017 title by only one point. The 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia season kicks off this weekend at Sepang Circuit on the 13-15th of April, and the team’s preparations are well under way ready for the new season. Gilbert said, “It will be an interesting year and we are excited to come back to the series, and win that championship. We have the determination and with WRT, we will definitely have the strongest team.” His team-mate Patel agreed, stating, “We definitely have unfinished business this year. After what we went through last year, we know we have what it takes to win that championship. We are better prepared and we will do our best.”
