In line with Craft-Bamboo Racing’s ultimate goal of winning the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia championship title, Darryl O’Young will drive the #991 Porsche 911 GT3 R with Aidan Read. Having been one of Craft-Bamboo’s staple GT drivers since 2014, he has made significant contributions to their championship success in various series. Hailing from Hong Kong, he joined the team in 2014 to compete in the World Endurance Championship, managing to score a GTE Pro class podium at Fuji. He followed this up with another successful year in 2015, taking the GT Asia Series’ overall championship victory after scoring 4 wins and 3 podium finishes, along with a 3rd place finish at the Bathurts 12 Hours.
O’Young said, “I have had a long history as a driver with Craft-Bamboo Racing and I am really excited to be back in the second season of the Blancpain GT Series Asia. Last year we made a lot of progress with the Porsche, taking our first win and pole position in the series. I am really looking forward to starting this season strong. Last year we had a tough start to the year and then came back strong, so this year we are looking to make a championship challenge from the very beginning. I am very happy to be working with Aidan Read, he is a young talent who showed a lot of promise in his first year of GT3 racing and I believe we will work very well together with the aim of adding more wins to the team.”
Following Craft-Bamboo’s first year as a Porsche team in 2016, O’Young took the 991 911 GT3 R to its first Blancpain GT Series Asia pole position and victory in the 2017 season. Now joining Aidan Read for the 2018 season, his expertise with the Porsche and years of experience in high level international GT competition make him the ideal partner to mentor Read in his second GT season. With another successful test session with the updated 991 911 GT3 R under Read’s belt, both drivers are focused and prepared to fight for the championship right from the season opener taking place at Sepang on the 14-15th of April.
