Champ Motorsport’s Billy Lo from Hong Kong managed to take home double wins with his RS3 LMS in the TCR class’ opening rounds of 2018. Other Audi customers took four of the six potential GT3 podium places for the two races held Zhuhai International Circuit, with six Audi race cars in total hitting the track in 2018’s first tri-annual Pan Delta race meeting. Maneuvering expertly through the substantial traffic, Lo achieved two pole-to-flag victories over the race weekend and brought his car home unscathed from a mixed grid shared with the GT3 and GTC classes.
Meanwhile in the GT3 class, Michael Choy took second overall in both races with his GoKart Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3, with Liu Peng of Tianshi Racing Team coming home third after both races. For the reigning Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup Am+ champion David Chen of Tianshi Racing Team, round one turned out to be a disappointment. Starting the race second overall on the grid, a tyre puncture caused by contact with a competitor at turn one forced Chen’s GTC-class Audi R8 LMS GT3 Ultra into the pits, rejoining at the back of the grid and finishing 19th overall.
Chen had his work cut out for him in round two, with the starting grid determined by round one’s finishing positions. The 21-year-old powered through the field with an impressive charge and was running second overall by the fifth lap. An unfortunate mechanical issue forced him to pit with just a single lap of the race remaining, however he managed to rejoin the race in time to finish a solid seventh overall.
